Polemoniaceae | garden phlox/fall phlox
A pyramidal cluster of white to pink or lavender flowers atop a stout, smooth, erect, stem.
Habitat: Open woods and thickets.
Flowers: 1" wide; corolla trumpet-shaped, with 5 spreading lobes, tube hairy; stamens 5, short; pistil 1, with 3 stigmas.
Leaves: 3-5" long, opposite, ovate-lanceolate, bristly edged, with prominent side veins; usually 15-40 pairs below flower cluster.
Fruit: Capsule.
