Plant spreading, with much-branched stems; stems often flattened; petiole 5 - 13 mm long; leaflets with evenly scattered, strigose hairs on both surfaces; strigose hairs c. 0.2 mm long; inflorescences about as long as or slightly longer than the leaves; Flowers larger, 6 - 7 mm long, the staminal sheath c. 5.5 mm long; flowers deep carmine red; pods often longer, 15 - 33 mm long; seeds marbled mustard-brown and black.

I. suarezensis ressembles I. vohemarensis, but differs in its spreading growth habit (without the long, erect, whip-like, few-branched stems of I. vohemarensis), often flattened stems, leaves with longer petioles ( 2 - 5 mm long in I. vohemarensis), leaflets evently strigose on both surfaces, and in its much smaller hairs, inflorescences which do not notably exceed the leaves.
