Perennial herb with leafy shoots, 1,5 - 4 m tall, arising from extensive rhizomes. Inflorescences with 4 - 10 flowered, arising at the base of the leafy shoots. Petals red. Labellum yellow or pale orange. Fruit ovoid to subglobose, 7 - 9, 5 cm long, including the persistent calyx, red when ripe.
