Mexican Free-tailed Bat

Tadarida brasiliensis

Summary 2

Tadarida brasilensis is a small bat that is less than four inches long and weighs less than one ounce. One way to tell them apart from most bats is that they are plain brown all over and have square ears. Their most defining characteristic is their tail that makes up half of their body length. They have a wrinkled upper lip and use echolocation to hunt. They live mainly in caves but will also roost in buildings as long as they are dark and the bats have access to an entrance. I believe they spend most of their time airborne as I couldn’t find anything about tracks they might leave. They can be found in Iron County.

Description 3
