The Northern flying squirrel (Glaucomys sabrinus) is one of two species of the genus Glaucomys, found in North America. Flying squirrels are strictly nocturnal. The Northern flying squirrel is found in coniferous and mixed forests across the top of North America, from Alaska to Nova Scotia, south to the mountains of North Carolina and west to California.

Identification 3

The Northern flying squirrel (Glaucomys sabrinus) has thick light brown/gray fur on the dorsal part of the body and creamy white fur on the ventral part of the body, there is also a dark black colored line that separates the two body colors. They have large eyes and a flat tail. This squirrel is roughly ten inches long from nose to tail.

Utah Distribution 3

Found in the southwestern Utah counties of Beaver, Iron, and Washington. Garfield County north, through all of the central Utah counties to, Cache County, and then the northeastern counties Summit, Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah.
