Small to large tree, up to 20 m tall, major branches most often horizontal becoming erect distally, bark ussually reddish brown and exfoliating. Leaves 5 foliolate, rarely 3, margin leaflet distincly serrate. Flowers emerging when inr leaf, with petals bright yellow to orange-yellow. Fruits globose, pericarp dense reddish brown.
Phenology: flowering in February to April, ripe fruit in October-November.
The species extends along the west coast from near Itampolo in the south-west to Soalala in the north-west.
