Description: Cells form close-set chains by apposition of tips of elevations. Cells have bipolar symmetry and bipolar elevations, and numerous small disk-like chloroplasts. The apertures between cells in chains are narrow, and cells are twisted about the pervalvar axis.
Distribution: Cosmopolitan, warm coastal areas.

Cerataulina is a diatom genus. Cerataulina is similar to another genus of the family Hemiaulaceae, Eucampia. Cerataulina inhabits coastslines and estuaries. Cerataulina was originally classified as Syringigium in 1980 by Hasle & Syvertsen.
