Lethe appalachia

North american ecology (us and canada) 7

Satyrodes appalachia is resident to the eastern United States (Scott 1986). Habitats are floodplain forest and bush swamp, often within sight of water. Host plants are sedges, largely restricted to a few species in one family, Cyperaceae. Individuals overwinter as third or fourth instar larvae. There is one flight each year in the northern part of their range with flight times approximately late June-July 31, and two flights in the southern part of the range with approximate flight times June 1-July 31 and late Aug.-early Oct. (Scott 1986). This species is synonymized with Lethe Appalachia in some sources (Scott 1986).
