Neonympha areolata is resident in the southeastern United States (Scott 1986). Habitats are open bogs in the northern areas and moist grassy areas, wet meadows and pine flats southward. Host plants are probably sedges (Cyperaceae). Eggs are laid on stems singly. Individuals overwinter as fourth instar larvae. There are a variable number of flights based on latitude with one flight from late June-July 15 in the northern part of the range, two flights late April ? early Sept. in the mid part of the range, and multiple flights all year in the most southern part of the range (Scott 1986).
