The Ruby-crowned Kinglet (Regulus calendula) is a very small passerine bird found throughout North America. It is a member of the kinglet family. The bird has olive-green plumage with two white wing bars and a white eye-ring. Males have a red crown patch, which is usually concealed. Range description 8

Regulus calendula occurs throughout North America, in the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico and Guatemala (del Hoyo et al. 2006). The subspecies obscurus, endemic to Mexico's Guadalupe Island, was last recorded in 1953 and is now considered extinct (Barton et al. 2004).
