Corophiid Amphipods

Corophiidae

In Lake Merritt 3

Most amphipods are laterally compressed, but these guys are dorsally compressed, so they look more flattened than pinched. They usually have two projecting appendages at the front. They should be present almost anywhere there's mud. Monocorophium insidiosum is one species that's been positively identified from the lake, but there may be others.
