Summary 2

Multi-stemmed tree (rarely single stemmed) up to 10m high. Rough bark is grey-brown, except for upper stems and branches which are smooth. Leaves are glossy green and flowers are white in summer. Flower buds are in 7s and pear-shaped. Fruit is reddish-brown or dark grey. They are egg shaped, but flat on top, valves are inserted or level with rim.
