"Erect, tufted, non rhizomatous annuals, 5-10 cm tall; stem slender, strongly compressed, ribbed, hardly winged below the inflorescence, glabrous. Leaves basal, few, flat, linear, 6 cm long, 2 mm wide, many nerved; sheath 1-1.5 cm long, light brown coloured; ligule a dense fringe of short hairs. Inflorescence compound, 1-2 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide, rays and ultimate branches cymose, or spicate; bracts 2, suberect, shorter than the inflorescence, 5-8 mm long. Spikelets 2-4 x 1 mm, ovoid, acute, brownish; rachilla winged; glumes spiral, ovate, acute, mucronulate, yellowish brown with hyaline margins, excurrently keeled, 3-nerved, 1-1.5 x 1.5 mm, basal two glumes empty, shorter than the fertile ones, 1 x 1 mm. Stamens 2-3, anther oblong, 0.3-0.4 mm; style linear, triquetrous, pyramidally thickened at base, glabrous, 0.8 mm long; stigmas 3, shorter than the style. Nut obovoid, trigonous to triquetrous, 0.6-0.7 x 0.3-0.4 mm, whitish, shortly stipitate, smooth, transversely lineolate with isodiametric cells."
