Brush-footed Butterflies

Nymphalidae

Summary 2

Nymphalidae is a family of butterflies, also known as brush-footed butterflies, which contains about 5,000 species world wide. These medium to large sized butterflies often have very colorful wings on top and contrasting undersides which look mottled. Adult members of this family have smaller fore legs and often hold their wings flat when at rest. Their antennae have various shaped clubs on the end but always have two grooves on the underside.

The Glacier National Park Museum houses 260 individual specimens representing 48 species of brush-footed butterflies.
