The Common Branded Skipper (wingspan 22 - 30 mm) can be found across Canada south to Maine, the Dakotas and the Southwest US, as well as sections of Europe, Asia and Africa. It prefers open grassy meadows with soils high in calcium carbonate including subalpine meadows and foothills. Caterpillar host plants include grasses and sedges. Adults fly from early June to mid-September, feeding upon nectar from a variety of flowers including asters, goldenrod, and blazing star. Males often patrol hilltops in search of mates.
