The Long Dash Skipper is native to southern Canada and Northern United States from the Atlantic Coast to eastern British Columbia and Washington. It can be found in open moist areas including meadows, marshes and stream sides. Caterpillars feed on grasses and hibernate as fourth stage larvae. Adults fly from late May to mid-August, feeding on flowers of herbaceous plants.
