The Alberta Arctic butterfly is native to Central Canada, northern Montana and North Dakota and isolated areas of the Rocky Mountains as far south as Arizona and New Mexico. Preferred habitat includes virgin prairie and bunch grass hills. Adults, with wingspans of 35 - 57 mm, take flight from May to June. Caterpillars feed on bunch grass.
