The Coronis Fritillary range includes much of Western United States from Washington to South Dakota and south to Colorado and Baja California. Preferred habitat includes mountain slopes, foothills, prairie valleys sage brush and forest openings. The caterpillar host plants include various species of violets. Adults, with wingspans of 50 - 86 mm, take flight from mid-June to September.

The Coronis Fritillary has not been documented in Glacier National Park since 1935. Although it appears on historic lists, more recent confirmed sightings of this species are from just outside of Glacier National Park.
