The Edith’s Checkerspot ranges from southern British Columbia / Alberta to Baja California and southwest Colorado. It’s varied habitats include alpine tundra and ridge tops evergreen forests, and dry, low elevation, grasslands. Caterpillars feed on a variety of plants including paintbrush, beardtongue, lousewort and plantain. Depending on local climate, adults (with wingspans of 28 to 51 mm) fly between March and August.
