The Hoary Comma (wingspan 39 - 57 mm) ranges along the Pacific Coast to the Eastern Rockies from British Columbia / Manitoba to Southern California / New Mexico. It can be found in mountain forests, along streams and openings, and in meadows, from the valleys to above the timberline. Adults fly from July to September and then hibernate, emerging to mate from spring until June.
