The Two-tailed Swallowtail with a wingspan of 86 - 130 mm, is among the largest of western butterflies. It ranges from the Dakotas to Southeastern British Columbia south through Texas, Baja California and Mexico to Guatemala, utilizing a variety of habitats including midlevel mountains, foothills, canyons, moist valleys and stream sides. Caterpillar hosts include leaves of ash, hop tree, and chokecherry. In the North, adults fly from May to August.
