Arctiidae and Drepanidae

Summary 2

Arctiidae  (tiger, footmen, lichen and wasp moths) is a large and varied family of small to medium sized moths with the ability to produce ultrasonic sounds.

Crambidae are a large and varied family with the nominal subfamily Crambinae (grass moths) taking up closely folded postures on grass stems where they are inconspicuous, while other subfamilies include brightly coloured and patterned insects which rest in wing-spread attitudes. Snout moths have a structure in the ears called the praecinctorium, which joins two tympanic membranes

Drepanidae (hooktip and false owlet moths) is a small family of moths which includes “hook-tips” (possessing a distinctively hook-shaped apex to the forewing) and moths which superficially resemble owlets.
