California mustard

Caulanthus lasiophyllus

Description 3

Spring ephemeral plants. Before bolting the basal leaves resemble Saharan mustard. However the leaves are narrower, have irregular lobes and lack the stiff bristles; hairs are soft if present. Flowers are white; mature fruit are reflexed ("laid back") along the stem. Plants are usually smaller than Saharan mustard.
