The African bullfrog (Pyxicephalus adspersus) is a species of frog in the Ranidae family. It is also known as the pixie frog due to its Latin name. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possibly Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its natural habitats are dry savanna, moist savanna, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, intermittent freshwater lakes, intermittent freshwater marshes, arable land, pastureland, and canals and ditches....

Distribution 5

The range of Pyxicephalus adspersus is mostly sub-Saharan. Its range extends north and east into Somalia, west to Nigeria, and south to the Cape Provence, South Africa.

A closely related, slightly smaller species, Pyxicephalus edulis, occupies a smaller range in southern Africa, from Zimbabwe and northern South Africa to (probably) Botswana, Mozambique, and Zambia (Passmore and Carruthers, 1995; Channing et al., 1994).
