Pelomedusa galeata is a species of African Mud turtle that inhibits the coastal region of South Africa.
Pelomedusa galeata is characterized from other mud turtles by the two fleshy protuberance's that come off of the neck. After a recent split took place which split P. subrufa into P. galeata and P. subrufa, the mud turtles in the coastal area from the Cape to Mthatha are considered P. galeata. No other mud turtle is found in that area.
