Pelusios subniger

Summary 4

Nonindigenous populations exist on Mauritius Island, Glorieues Îsles, and Diego Garcia. This species is commonly confused with Pelusios castaneus.

Diagnosis 5

There are a few diagnostics that distinguish P. subniger from other species of mud turtles. The plastral color patterns are usually with a symmetrical yellow and brown/blackish pattern, each shield yellow mesially and dark towards the sulci. The head color is usually uniform brown, sometimes spotted with black. The skin is grey/black, and the outer surfaces of limbs are black.[1]
