This is the only species of Kinixys in Madagascar. It is distinguished from other turtles from the well-developed hinge at the rear end of the upper part of its shell, permitting the protection of its rear legs after they have been retracted.[1]
Conservation 2
Not much is known about Madagascar hinge-backs. Research should be done to find out what they are threatened by (if they are threatened).
