The wattle-necked softshell turtle (Palea steindachneri) is an endangered species of softshell turtle and the only member from the genus Palea.

Diagnosis 4

This species is poorly known and listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List. The plastron is colored gray, as shown in the second picture. (This distinguishes it from Pelodiscus sinensis, which has a plastron that is[1] orange-red, and may also have large dark blotches.[2])

Conservation 4

It is listed as Endangered globally by the IUCN Red List.[3] Its rarity in Hawaii is unknown.[1]
