● Solitary foragers along the shoreline near Maalaea and Kealia Pond Coastal Boardwalk
● Near the sand plug at the boardwalk
● Muddy edges of Kanuimanu ponds

Bird Facts 2

● Unusually small world population which may be in the tens of thousands (BNA online)
● Winters on the island and breeds in the Arctic Tundra
● Subdults may spend first two summers of their life on the island and not migrate to their breeding grounds
● Because of their disappeared in the winter and returned in the fall, Hawaiians believed they were messangers (Hawaiian Encyclopedia)
