Description ²

Deep bodied with convex forehead profile. May have many gold spots on body and cheeks. Depending on where caught might be pale or dark in color. Usually yellowish fins. A bit less chubby than C. variegatus. Saltwater to brackish areas. Note: no spot on dorsal fin and no dark edge on posterior caudal fin. V-shaped indentation in pupil. D. 11-12; A. 9-10.
