Summary 2

Mat-forming, hairless perennial herb; creeping, branched stems up to 25 cm and rooted at nodes. Leaf blades 5-16 x 5-12 mm, arranged alternately along stems; undivided and ovate with slightly crenulated margins; shiny, dark green on upper surface. Flowers are solitary, funnel-shaped, bilaterally symmetrical; 5 petals; lilac on the outside, white inside; anthers deep purple. Fruit: A berry with many seeds; 10-15 mm diameter; green to purplish.

Distribution 2

Introduced to South Georgia, can be found at Grytviken and Stromness Bay.
Native to the Falkland Islands

Comments 3

Found in moist places. Unlikely to be confused with any other of the plants found on South Georgia because of its distinctive shiny, crenulated leaves and bilaterally symmetrical white/lilac flowers.
