Trifolium repens, the white clover (also known as Dutch clover, Ladino clover, or Ladino), is a herbaceous perennial plant in the bean family Fabaceae (Previously referred to as Leguminosae). It is native to Europe and central Asia.
White clover is a creeping hairless perennial herb, rooted at nodes; procumbent stems up to 50 cm long. Leaves palmately trifoliate on long stalks; each leaflet 10-30 mm long, often bearing a whitish, circular mark. Flower heads globular on long stalks; individual flowers 7-12 mm long, white or pink petals; sepals form a toothed tube, white with green veins.
Seeds pale brown 1x1 mm; spherical; seeds dispersed by animals, wind; seed viability in the soil >5 years.
Known from Grytviken, Husvik and Leith Harbour
Unlikely to be mistaken for any other species on South Georgia. Flowers scented when fresh.
