Other names for the Western Goldentop are Western goldenrod or Western fragrant goldenrod. It's scientific name is Euthamia occidentalis. It is in the Asteraceae ⁄ Compositae (Aster) family, genus Euthamia Nutt. ex Cass. (goldentop), and species is Euthamia occidentalis Nutt. (western golden top).

Flowers in the Aster family grow in florets so that means that the Western Goldentop can have florets. The Western Goldentop grows in North America from Nebraska west to California, north to British Columbia and south to Arizona and New Mexico.
