Medium to large toad; SVL of males up to 91 mm, of females up to 104 mm; however most Egyptian animals are considerably smaller than this, particularly desert popula­tions. Snout notably short, rounded; paratoids prominent, smooth, rounded; tympanum relatively small, about 0.5 of eye diame­ter. Back fairly smooth with only few large warts, venter slightly granular. Second finger shorter than first; hind limbs short, with limited webbing between digits; tarsal ridge present. Males with a subgular vocal sac. Dorsum light gray with irregularly shaped dark-green blotches, often also some small  reddish  spots. Ventral sides whitish; throat dark in males. Call consists of a soft trill, more like a bird than a toad.
