Large crested newt and strong structure, with dark back, of colors varying from brown to gray, and round black spots, often slightly greenish. Hips almost without white dots. Belly and throat are bright orange, with well-defined black spots. In the reproductive period the males have a high dorsal crest, sharply serrated, and a smooth caudal crest. On each side of the tail there is a silver-white longitudinal band. It has a total length of 14-18 cm.
