Description 2

Ground color varies from bright orange to dull yellowish; 2 concentrations of brown dots occur medially on dorsum, one just posterior of rhinohores and the other just anterior of branchial plumes. Dorsum thickly set with numerous, spiculate tubercles of various sizes, which are larger medially and smaller marginally. Rhinophores bear 14-16 lamellae which are bright orange to dull yellow with a brownish tinge. Branchial plumes 6, bi- and tripinnate, somewhat lighter in color than dorsum and bear a few brown flecks on rachis and are encrusted with white. Labial tentacles digitiform.

Size 2

Up to 32mm in length.

Geographic Range 2

Carmel, Monterey Bay, CA, to Isla Natividad, Baja California, Mexico.

Notes 2

Found in the low, rocky intertidal, and subtidal to 30 meters. In the Monterey Bay area, thus far reported only from the subtidal, but does occur in the intertidal in southern California.
