500 species!

Yesterday I took a quick walk around the office after work and encountered my 500th species since I've joined the iNat community. It's been a fun time, and the project I created for Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center has grown quickly as well, with a total of 603 species at the time of writing.

On my quick walk, I found a Pileated woodpecker and a related Northern flicker, along with a tall but tiny gilled fungus I haven't recorded before and I'm attributing to the Family psathyrellacaeae - any help with further ID is appreciated. If you see the photo looking a little odd, it's because I use my phone to take a photo of the screen of my Fuji camera so I can capture location. I'll go back in and upload high-res photos at some point to make them available to the community through the Creative Commons license.

I've really enjoyed using the site and learning IDs for many creatures I would never have gone to look up in a guidebook or even searched for online. I have definitely learned more about the world around me in the last year working here at the nature center and observing something on iNat almost daily than in the rest of my life leading up to this year.
