Alpine Newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris)

Description

The historic grotto fountains are still being kept out of service. There is a fresh water supply that should have been running for some time, but it remains switched off. The small fountain, which is also naturally inhabited by amphibians and dragonfly larvae, was left to dry out after the drain plug was removed. All the more alpine newts live in the large grotto well. In recent years, the protected amphibians and dragonfly larvae have been killed by drainage and "cleaning" operations.
