Description

7 Months after the Fire. Weather (22 Degrees Celsius and cloudy) After approx 20mm of rain. Observed between 20 and 30 Beetles, all crossing the main access road of the Brenton Peninsula in a South Easterly direction.

Description

Large Black and White Butterfly with distinctive blue and brown-orange "eye" markings on hind wings. Found in dune Fynbos Biome, close to a small Forest Biome found in the Brenton on Lake area in Knysna. Interesting area to observe butterfly as their eggs are laid singly on citrus tree leaves and there are very few Citrus trees in this residential area found in private gardens. (Citrus Trees not endemic to the area)

Description

Observed various sizes/ages of Candelabra Lilies coming up where there were large 5/6 prostate leaves in August 2017. The leaves have "dissapeared" and the bulbous perennial about 40cm long is bearing beautiful bright red flowers.

A geophyte, with corms measuring 12-18 mm in diameter.
Flowers from June to mid-September.
Seeds are oblong, measuring 6-8 mm long by 5-7 mm wide, evenly winged.
