Description

Unidentied tree with large stilt roots, simple, opposed leaves, no exsudate, no particular smell, lamina with some obscure translucid dots and many, small, dark glandular structures or maybe endophytic fungi. Apparently no stipules, but one of the photos shows some structures that could well be stipules and which would therefore have to lead to another family than Myrtaceae. The fruit and flowers are unknown to me; the fruit photo that I have added has been given to be by a third party who thinks it might have come from that tree (it was picked up on the ground in the forest). This species was planted by the department of forestry several decades ago, and is being a strong invader of the montane forest.

Description

Observation posted on behalf of Lindsay Chong-Seng, who himself received this observation from friends hiking somewhere on Mahé. I will add the coordinates later if I get them. I have not found records of this species in Seychelles, so this might be the first one. It is generally said native to Southeast Asia, and is a known invader in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Southern USA, Europe. It is known from La Reunion: https://hal.science/hal-02090392, and might be a new introduction in Seychelles? It feeds on gastropods.
