Description

This tree frog was seen hiding in a window frame to hide from the heat. This observation was taken on a 87 degree Fahrenheit partly cloudy day and the environment was urban (a house) surrounded by wetland/woodland. The frog was seen along with another, darker frog. This species was identified because of the bright green color, the white underbelly, and the distribution of this species.

Description

This gator was spotted lying alone on a bank across the river from where I was. The gator was seen on a cloudy 85 degree Fahrenheit day following light precipitation. The wetland environment and surrounding woodland was the typical habitat for the alligator but only one was seen. The gator was identified because a park ranger said it was a gator, the location (being within the state of Florida), and the jaw structure along with the color.

Description

This scary hornet was seen flying around me and landed shortly on a wooden railing in a woodland natural park. This hornet was flying alone and was observed on a 84 degree partly cloudy, day. This hornet was identifiable because it has distinctive white markings on its thorax and abdomen along with its characteristic white bald face.

Description

This Moss was seen growing on a log found in a woodland habitat. The Moss was covering the entirety of the log that was above ground and was also seen growing on nearby logs. This observation was taken on a partly cloudy 86 degree Fahrenheit day. It was identified thanks to the leaf structure as apex apiculate and bright light green color of the Moss.

Description

This tiny spider was seen sitting on a pole in a playground located within a natural woodland habitat park. This observation was taken after a short rainfall on a 83 degree Fahrenheit partly cloudy day. The lonesome spider was identified because of its size, color (tiger like marking on the legs and abdomen), anatomical limb proportions, and it’s location (being within the state of Florida).

Description

This observation was taken on a rainy and cloudy 83 degree Fahrenheit day. The frog pictured was seen hiding in the crevice of a sign along a nature trail of a woodland environment. The frog was seen hiding alone and came into better view after some time. The frog was identified through its distinct brown markings, tan coloration, leg length, and location (being within the state of Florida).

Description

The plant seen growing in this photo was spotted growing on the ground next to a tree in a forest environment. The plant was growing alone, but other plants of the same species could be seen scattered around it. Description

This bird was seen walking between the trees and water of a wetland/forest habitat. It was walking alone along the water and trees striking its beak every so often. This observation was taken on a 93 degree Fahrenheit, very hot, and very sunny day. Thanks to the tan coloration, long legs, downward curving beak, and distribution, this bird was identified.

Description

This cypress tree was seen growing on the edge of a small river on the shoreline. It was a wetland/marsh environment, typical in the state of Florida. The tree had many other cypresses growing besides it as the environment was perfect for them. This observation was taken on a very hot and sunny, 93 degree Fahrenheit day. The cypress was identified through use of its physical appearance (knees, size (50-70ft tall) leaves), it’s location (Florida), and it’s habitat (wetland/immersed in water).

This tree was seen standing tall in a large open field in the middle of a park. The habitat surrounding it was forest/woodland, but it was present in a grassy clearing. This tree was seen on a hot, very sunny, 93 degree Fahrenheit day. This tree was identified thanks to the pine cones it dropped, the length of the needles, its height (up to 56 ft.tall), and its location (being within the state of Florida).

This pelican was seen on a hot sunny 92 degree Fahrenheit day. It was seen sitting on the dock way under a bridge in a saltwater environment. The pelican sat alone but there were other pelicans in the vicinity. Description

This moth was seen clinging to a concrete wall by a pool at the hotel I’m staying at. It was alone and was spotted in the urban habitat when it was 91 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny. The moth was easily identified due to its distinctive markings (four eyespots on its wings, one on each) and coloration (tan with grey lines), along with bilateral symmetry and a fat body. It seemed to be hiding from the heat and didn’t fly away when touched.

Description

I saw this crab sitting alone on the dock of a marina in a saltwater habitat. My friend then picked up the crab to further analyze it. This observation was made on a sunny, breezy, 80 degree Fahrenheit day. Upon further analysis, the identification of this species became apparent thanks to the crab’s black bilaterally symmetrical markings, size between (2-4inches), and location (being in the state of Florida)

This species was seen growing abundantly along the waters edge as it is an invasive species and dominates its environmental niche. This fern was seen on a partly cloudy, semi breezy, 89 degree Fahrenheit day. I saw this lizard on a tree near a body of freshwater in a forest/marshland habitat. The lizard was alone sitting on its branch during the partly cloudy, breezy, 89 degree Fahrenheit day. Description

This ant was seen alone on a piece of fallen wood that had previously been dredged by other animal such that there was bore holes all over it. The ant, though small, was seen as it’s striking red appearance stood out amongst the pale tan background as it was moving rapidly probably scouting for food. The ant was seen at a park in the marsh area on a partly cloudy 89 degree Fahrenheit day which had a slight breeze. The ant was identified thanks to: its proportional sizes of head, thorax, and abdomen, it’s red color, it’s large pinchers, and it’s location being that of the state of Florida.

This flowering plant was seen growing all alone in an open grassy area on a natural trail in a woodland habitat park. This small plant was seen on a partly cloudy 89 degree Fahrenheit day which had a slight breeze. The flower was seen growing all alone with a long skinny stem raising it in the air. This plant was seen growing out of the ground and climbing up the side of a tree. The surrounding area was forest/marsh yet it was the only one of its kind growing up the tree. He vine was seen on a partly cloudy, 89 degree Fahrenheit day with a slight breeze. The vine was able to be identified thanks to: its unique leaves which have a certain amount of ridges (dentate), and the location being that of the state of Florida.
