Description

It’s body is divided into three main parts ~ the head, the thorax, and the abdomen. They have a hard, waterproof exoskeleton, which is made of a material called chitin, and are exceptionally strong for their size. It has three simple eyes which consist of many eye facets detecting light and shadow. Also have two antennae they use to recognize their nest mates and detect enemies. It has six legs are attached to the thorax. An ant has a petiole connecting the thorax to the abdomen. The petiole can be one or two segments. This feature is used to identify ant subfamilies. They live in warm climates. They eat the fungus that grows on the leaves. They also roam through jungles and tropical habitats eating any animals they can find.

Description

Mosquitoes have two pairs of wings, but their second pair of wings are reduced to short, peg-like structures called halteres. It has a thin, long body and three pairs of extremely long legs. It has scales along the veins of their wings and long beak-like, sharp sucking mouth parts called a proboscis. It is smaller than 15 mm in length. Mosquitoes can live in almost any environment, with the exception of extreme cold weather. They favor forests, marshes, tall grasses and weeds, and ground that is wet at least part of the year.

Description

Slash pine (Pinus elliottii) is one of the hard yellow pines indigenous to southeastern United States. The slash pine is a medium to large tree that reaches heights of 80' to 100' tall, with a trunk up to 1 meter in diameter. It has a round top and "brooms" of needles at the ends of the branches. Its’ needles may be 5" to 11" long and are borne 2 to 3 to a fascicle. The orange-brown bark is scaly with plates. It is durable and hard. It has thick, plate like bark with an extensive root system, and a moderate taproot. Its cones measure 8-16 cm (3 – 6 inches) long and are a glossy brown color. Evergreen shrub that has glossy green leaves and deeply colored, small red berries. The plant is sometimes referred to as the California holly, though the leaves of the Christmas berry are round. The leaves are flat, smooth and with a sheath surrounding the stem. Leaves alternate in a spiral fashion on the stem. The flowers are 3-parted flowers, each about 1 inch wide with ovate petals that have rounded tips which are light purple. The 3 sepals of the calyx are green, mostly smooth, except for some marginal hair, and shorter than the petals. Flower stalks are smooth. The six stamens have light purple filaments, yellow anthers. Common in wet lands. They are from the Kingdom Plantae, and their common name is green algae. They are green unicellular desmids with two flattened semi cells, separated by a deep constriction. Further divided by several incisions, where the incisions are wide the cells have radiating arms. Each semi cell contains a single green chloroplast. Small bird with brown and short beak and legs. With a light brown spots in the head and in the eyes making it look like a mask. The top part of the wings are light grey, and towards the end of it they are black with white dots.
