What
Prairie Iris (Iris savannarum)Observer
dshellDescription
Note that eFlora of North America has savannarum elevated to species status, and considers it the most common/widespread of the Florida Irises. I didn't get photos of the fruit here so am not 100% sure of the ID; I. virginica and I. hexagona might also be possible. However sepal shape (tapered to claw, and apparently acute at apex), along with the large more or less open colony structure, seem to more closely match I. savannarum to me. I'll continue investigating further to try to confirm.

What
Irises (Genus Iris)Observer
dshellDescription
Recent revisions to Iris treatments for Florida make this a little challenging. Ostensibly the most common/likely species would be I. savannarum, however the fruits here (and sepals of flowering specimens in the vicinity) seem more like I. hexagona, despite the fact that species is now considered rare in Florida, and is not officially vouchered on the Florida peninsula. More investigation required.

Recent revisions to Iris treatments for Florida make this a little challenging. Ostensibly the most common/likely species would be I. savannarum, however the sepals here appear to be somewhat abruptly expanded from the claws rather than tapered, thus more like I. hexagona, despite the fact that species is now considered rare in Florida, and is not officially vouchered on the Florida peninsula. Fruits of other specimens in the vicinity also seem more like I. hexagona. More investigation required.
