I think maybe…..this is Robinia hispida hispida, but stems are not bristly, so…???
All plants were 4-5 feet tall. Roadside. Fields behind were previously wooded and have been clear cut and bulldozed within the last year. Sandy soil.

My first thought was hispida nana. Are there any others that bloom this short? Roadside, grassy, open pine woods (timbered 5-7 years ago) This plant, at the edge of the road was 2.5 feet tall. However, all other plants, further away from the road, were 4-5 feet high. So… I think it could be R. hispida hispida.
Still learning on this genus. Specimen was taken.
@branwhee, you considered the possibility of kelseyii three years ago. This population was much branchier and more robust then:
