Poor quality picture, but in the back there are a few American widgeons (anas Americana). This was taken at the bird observation deck in moraine state park. They were eating the plants near the waters edge.

I observed these 2 Anas platyrhynchos or Mallards male and female, at the pond my the 3 disc golf basket on campus. You can tell the male by the coloration and the green head is a give away. The female is less colorful. They seemed to be eating the vegetation near the waters edge.

Very poor quality picture but in the back of the picture to the left is an Ardea Herodias also known as a Great Blue Heron. There were many other species of water fowl in the area. All sharing the common area to eat.

I observed this American Sweetgum (Liquidambar Styraciflua) near the Spotts building on campus. I know it’s a Sweetgum by it’s fruit and it’s simple palmate leaves. There seems to be some kind of lichen growing on the bark of the tree.

Pictured is a Staghorn sumac (Rhus Typhina). It was found at the macoskey center. With its red fruit, it makes it easily identifiable. It also has pinnately compound leaves. Also observes was Goldenrod (Solidego Sp). It’s behind the tree in the background of the first photo.

This tree is right outside my apartment in Slippery Rock. It appears that it is a Norway Maple tree or Acer platanoides. It provides shade for my parking spot. It has opposite leaves. It’s leaves are toothed and it’s a 5 lobbed leaf.

I found this Boneset ( Eaupatorium Perfoliatum) near the Rock Apartments behind them actually, near a stream. It wasn’t a very big plant maybe 2 feet tall. It had alternating simple leaves.

Solidago Subsect. Triplinerviae (Subsection Triplinerviae)Observer

I found the Goldenrod (Solidago) on Slippery Rock campus near building b. There was a big patch of it, the tallest plant there being about 5 foot tall. Also growing near were some birdsfoot trefoil (lotus corniculatus). It had just rained so I didn’t see any insects or other pollinators.

I found several crayfish while kick netting in the wolf creek creek. I can tell it’s a crayfish by the claws and it’s body and when it swims it swims backwards.

Common Stoneflies (Family Perlidae)Observer

It’s a stonefly nymph (plecoptera) I couldn’t find a picture of a stonefly nymph when putting it in here so I put it under stonefly. We were using a kick net and we kicked up this guy. He’s got a very beautiful coloration. The 2 tails help with identifying it and the 6 legs and 2 antennas. We were at wolf creek.

American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis)Observer

I saw this American Goldfinch at the feeder. I know it’s an American Goldfinch by its coloration. There were 2 others as well. I also saw 2 Chipmunks (Tamias Striatus), one Mourning Dove (Zenaida Macroura). I watched this all by the feeder right next to the macoskey center building.

While birdwatching I saw this Red-Winged Blackbird at the feeder. I can tell it’s a Red-Winged Blackbird because of the coloration on the wings. It was having lunch at the feeder.

While I was birdwatching after class I saw this Northern Cardinal. I can tell it’s a male cardinal by its coloration and the tuft of feathers on its head. It was in the tree behind the feeder that’s not directly next to the house. It was around noon when I saw him.

At the bird feeder outside the classroom at the macoskey center. Many other birds were near they had been flying to and from the feeder. We sat outside a bit but came back in the room and captured this picture.

I think it’s some type of mouse. It has a few tracks then goes into a burrow and a few inches away from those tracks were more of the same type of tracks. I found these tracks near the macoskey center. Near where the tractor is under the car canopy.

I saw this little guy outside my apartment when I was taking out my trash. It’s bushy tail and coloration let me know that it is an eastern gray squirrel.

The fresh snow made it easy to see the deer track and the drag mark of the hoof. I also saw rabbit tracks and some squirrel tracks. I found this track near the macoskey as well. There’s a composite pile near by, all species are probably up there to eat.

Found some rabbit tracks out near the macoskey center in slippery rock. The large hind feet were a big indicator that helped me to identify that it was a rabbit. There were also some deer tracks around the area. It had snowed so the tracks were easy to see and identify.

Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana)Observer

This track was found under a car canopy near the equestrian center at slippery rock. It is a Virginia opossum track because of the distinct thumb print in the snow.
