Description

Even though its an introduced frog to New Zealand these are quite common around suburban gardens on the South Island. Its a brown to grey frog with orange thighs, a distinct eardrum and a chirping cricket like call - it seems to enjoy cold and wet evenings in the winter.

A beautiful large toad - several seen, some in amplexus, and several clutches of eggs in the stream. This was during the mid-congress field trip of the 2nd Congress on Mediterranean Herpetology.
