Description

This tree has an interesting story. Two large trucks grew from the same stump in the distant past. During an ice storm on Jan. 26, 2009, one side of the tree fell. Last week, this side fell creating a new widowmaker. See the previous observation to see how the fallen trunk has rotted in the last 11 years. This is the same tree as:

Description

Like many trees in this area, this plant was broken in the Jan. 26, 2009 (not 2019) ice storm. The tree had two large main trunks. One split off in 2009 and lies on the ground rotting. The second trunk survived for another 11 years but has fallen in the last week, its top now help up by another nearby tree. I had wondered what might happen to the second half of the tree over time. Now, I know! I may go back another day and see if I can photograph the leaves.

See leaves at:

from this same tree.

Description

This was at the edge of this pond. Our beagle seemed to be chasing something for 15 minutes. Finally, I looked closely, spotted this little guy, and picked him/her up easily. It seemed exhausted and just sat in my hand as I took photos. It was late in the day and despite 15 photos, none were in good focus.
