Description

Growing in moist hardwood debris on the forest floor. Steep, north-facing slopes along the south fork of the Holston River near Alvarado on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Several dozen seen. Patches of snow still present.

Description

I caught 2 individuals while fishing in Anthony Creek, a tributary of the Johns River, in the Catawba-Santee watershed. I’m not at all confident of the id but looks to be a Notropis and N. chlorocephalus is endemic to this watershed.

I caught and released 5 native wild brook trout on Gentry Creek in Cherokee National Forest. This stream has been sampled by TN Fish and Game biologists and verified by DNA analysis to contain native southern Appalachian brook trout stock.
