I am a wildlife ecologist/biologist working in the Nature Conservation Foundation in India and have been primarily engaged in long-term research, monitoring and conservation of hornbills in the Indian Eastern Himalaya (mainly in Arunachal Pradesh) for over 20 years. I am interested in plant–animal interactions in rainforests, tropical forest dynamics and tree phenology, understanding human impacts on wildlife, and engaging with people for conservation. Currently, conservation work is focussed on protecting hornbills and forest habitats through partnerships with communities and the government. I live in Bangalore for most of the year (when not in the field), and I enjoy watching and photographing birds and plants even in urban-rural habitats and making eBird lists. I love being in nature and travelling to different parts of India and occasionally also to other countries. I try to make time to upload images on eBird, iNat, Wikimedia and the India Biodiversity Portal, but there’s a lot more to put out there. I have written several books for children, co-authored Trees of Arunachal Pradesh: a field guide and co-edited a book At the Feet of Living Things: Twenty-Five Years of Wildlife Research and Conservation in India. I am also the Co-Chair (Asia) of the IUCN SSC Hornbill Specialist Group.
