El Barco was the location of our old sailboat in the Septentrional mountains near Altamira, Dominican Republic; and was a project site here on iNaturalist (see my Projects tab). Now, we lived at slightly lower elevation in Puerto Rico for five years, with a project devoted to all species in the Barrio of Palos Blancos (Sector Los Ramos) in Corozal. In 2026, relocated to Richmond, Virginia. Because we once lived in the Eastern North America forest biome, it feels familiar, though also new by virtue of various invasives and slight regional variations.
